About

Hello! My name is Jessi Bloom and I am an ecological landscape designer, author, arborist and teacher. My passion for ecology and permaculture was a flame that sparked decades ago and has never dwindled. Over the years I have worn many hats professionally, helping thousands of land stewards with consulting and design/build work, educating many more through my books and educational events.

I started NW Bloom EcoLogical Services, based in Woodinville WA, in 2000 to innovate and emphasize awareness of permaculture, sustainable landscape design, construction and land management.  Seattle Times named me a “rockstar in the ecological gardening movement“;  where my leadership led NW Bloom to numerous environmental awards and my books led to traveling nationwide as a speaker. I am committed to teaching and empowering others.  Currently, I teach more online post-covid, and have recently have become appointed as an Agricultural Commissioner for King County WA, with a focus on climate change and policy.  I also sit on the advisory committee for the WA State Dept. of Natural Resources Urban Forestry Programs, where my decades as a private sector arborist serve in behalf of the PNW ISA (International Society of Arboriculture).

You can find my work printed in the NY Times, Better Homes & Gardens, Fine Gardening Magazine, Martha Stewart Living, and UTNE Reader. I have been featured on PBS’s Growing a Greener World TV, regularly speak for Mother Earth News and Sunset Magazine and was a voice for ecological gardening and sustainable living for DISNEY World in 2015. I am appreciative and grateful of the awards and recognition I have received for my work in sustainable practices from institutions including the Washington State Department of Ecology, the American Horticultural Society, Pacific Horticulture magazine, the Washington State Nursery and Landscape Association, and the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals.

When I’m not helping others with their gardens, you can find me outside playing: snowboarding, hiking, running, biking, doing yoga and staying strong with Olympic weightlifting. Most of all, I love spending time with my kids on our permaculture farm full of beautiful, functional gardens and rescue animals.
